some politics

This week I watched the presidential debate. I also watched Elder Oaks speak in general conference this morning about discipleship and following the law.

I was really grateful for Elder Oaks saying what he said, and I would like for the whole country to hear his talk -- we need it. We need that voice of reason and his perspective. I think the intelligence, wisdom,  insight, and experience of the apostles is amazing but this morning it really blew me away, maybe in light of the presidential debate this week and how sharp of a contrast there was between the two events.

The media is a tool, and often it's used for really selfish means. Money, fame, and power, are ends that a lot of people seek--and can achieve--through or with the help of the media. Political propaganda or campaigning is pushing an agenda and there's generally a lot of money behind it. But even down to toothbrush commercials, there's always a product that's being sold or promoted and I notice that often I'm suspicious of advertising or the media because of it--especially with the political polarity and high-tension movements recently.

Listening to conference, where I know that what is being shared and said has only what I see as pure intentions, from leaders who I know love me and care deeply about the welfare of the people they are speaking to, and who, on top of that, demonstrate so much wisdom, grace, and humility was honestly relieving after watching the catfight that the debate earlier this week was.

There's so much panic, anger, hate, corruption, greed,,, and I'm so grateful that there are sources where we can get untainted help and information.

On a more individual level, if each of us aspire to be a little more like the apostles and follow their advice, what a powerful force we could be to cut through all the chaos and help lift the world. I sometimes forget, but there really is good and truth out there.

thanks for reading :)

  2. Hey thanks for sharing! You would probably like the documentary The Social Dilemma because it touches on so many points that you shared. If you notice there was a lot of trends about doing better in conference and how we can root out racism and prejudice from our own cultures which I absolutely loved. It is so good to always reflect, thanks again.
